At Modern Love, I guide you every step of the way from hand-selecting your gemstone and metal through precise CAD design and final polish, so you have full creative control. Whether you’re dreaming of a custom engagement ring, heirloom remodelling, or a statement piece, you get to build it your way.
Here’s how it goes:
1. Initial Discovery Call
Our first step is a discovery call, where we talk through your ideas and how you want your piece to look (ie. vintage, modern, metal preferences, prongs or bezel setting as well as colour and gemstones), your budget, and your timeline. Whether you have a concept in mind or want me to come up with something unique, we’ll figure out the best way to bring your piece to life if we’re a good fit.
2. Stone & Metal Selection
Using my global network and gemological training, I’ll hand-select ethically-sourced, natural gemstones options for your review, carefully curated to your project. For pieces where lab-grown diamonds are preferred, they may also be incorporated into the sourcing process.
3. Connect & Collaborate
Once gemstone options have been secured, we’ll schedule an in person meeting or virtually if you’re not local. At greater length, we’ll discuss how you want your piece to look and take any measurements necessary (ring sizes etc.) Most importantly, you will review the curated gemstone selection to choose your perfect stone(s).
4. Design & CAD Work + Revisions
Now that we have your stone(s) selected, I’ll begin work on custom sketches and/or 3D CAD design so you can see exactly how your piece will come to life. You will have an opportunity to make minor adjustments at this point. Once approval has been received, I’ll grow a 3D wax model for casting purposes, and the project will proceed to completion. Any changes requested after this point will be subject to additional charges.
5. Assembly & Gem Setting (metal-smithing magic)
Now that your piece is cast, it’s carefully cleaned up, pre-polished and assembled for gem-setting. Once gemstones are hand set, your piece gets its final polish and is prepared for third-party appraisal.
6. Appraisal & Delivery
When your bespoke piece is ready to be revealed, I’ll contact you to set a date for our most anticipated meeting. As a gesture of gratitude for your custom and remodelling project, I provide you with a complimentary third-party appraisal for insurance purposes. So you’re all set to go.
